Crossville MMA took members to Louisville, TN this past weekend to compete at the Momento Combat Sports Jiu-Jitsu tournament held inside of Memento Combat Sports. Three of the four Crossville MMA members were first time competitors and all four brought back medals to Crossville!
Our lone adult competitor of the day was Chrystal Massey. Chrystal is a BJJ White Belt who was competing in jiu-jitsu for very the first time. She stepped up in competition and fought two much more experienced competitors in the nogi women's open division. Despite giving up both weight and rank to her competitors, Chrystal still did very well and brought home 3rd Place in her very first tournament.
Grace Massey also competed at the event and was our only teen female competitor. Grace stepped out of her comfort zone and jumped into competition for the very first time, unfortunately she matched up with a much more experienced and very tough competitor and wasn't able to pick up the win on the day, but gained some very valuable competition experience. She brought home a 2nd Place medal in the Nogi Teen's Female Open Division.
Dawson Dillard and Bryston Collier were our representatives on the guys side of things. Bryston was competing for the very first time and picked up a win in the NoGi Teens Male Open Division and advanced to the finals in his very first tournament. Unfortunately the finals were occupied by his teammate Dawson, who also advanced to the finals with his win over a very tough Audie Baker.
Despite Bryston being a White Belt and Dawson a Blue Belt, the two decided to grapple for First place with Dawson coming out victorious. Bryston did very well in his competition debut making it to the finals and bringing home a 2nd Place medal. Dawson redeemed himself a little by taking bringing home a 1st place medal after placing 2nd the week prior in Murfreesboro at the Gracie Barra Annual New Years tournment.
All in all it was a very good day of competition with all four Crossville MMA competitors placing in their divisions. We couldn't be more proud of our athletes and look forward to their bright futures in the sport!
