Crossville MMA took members to Knoxville on February 25th, 2023 to compete at the Grappling Industries event being held at the Knoxville Convention Center and brought home almost a dozen medals. The last time that Grappling Industries held an event in Tennessee was last June in Nashville and we were able to bring home an adult third place team medal. Going into this event we set that as our goal, but with only 5 members competing we were still able to finish as the Adult Sixth Best Team overall.
The 5 members that Crossville MMA took to the Grappling Industries Knoxville event on Saturday were able to bring home a total of 3 Gold, 5 Silver, and 3 Bronze Medals. DJ Mackie made his Black Belt debut and took 1st Place in the Masters Black Belt Gi Absolute, 2nd Place in the Masters Black Belt Gi Middleweight Divsion, and 3rd in the Masters Brown/Black Belt NoGi Division. Aaron Desabrais put a gi on for the very first time and brought home a 2nd Place finish in the Mens White Belt Gi Heavyweight Division and a 3rd Place finish in the Mens NoGi Heavyweight Division. Grappling Industries was Aaron's major jiu-jitsu tournament debut, after competing for the first time in January at the Gracie Barra Annual in house tournament where he brought home a 1st place finish. New Crossville MMA member Leksi Wearing made her competition debut and cleaned out her Women's White Belt Gi Welterweight Division and brought home a 1st Place finish and a 2nd Place finish in the Women's White Belt NoGi Welterweight Division. Crossville MMA BJJ Blue Belt Doug Grant showed his grit, going into this tournament injured yet still picked up a 1st Place finish in the Masters NoGi Absolute, 2nd Place in the Masters Blue Belt Gi Absolute, 2nd Place in the Masters Blue Belt Gi Heavyweight Division, and 3rd Place in the Master's Blue Belt Gi Heavyweight Division. Finishing out the day for Crossville MMA was BJJ Blue Belt Bubba Grant. Bubba had some very, very tough matches in his Gi division and was injured in his 3rd match which prevented him from finishing the tournament. Thankfully no serious injury resulted and we look forward to him jumping back in there very soon. We are extremely proud of our Crossville MMA competition team. Thank you for all the hard work you put in! Congratulations team!
